Most Gooroo Sales Training Exists to Overcompensate for Undereducated Salespeople

Intel Brief

If the rep actually understood the product and the buyer, they wouldn't need 47 'frameworks' to close a deal.

Most gooroo sales training exists to overcompensate for undereducated salespeople.Stick with me here and don't lose your shirt,I'm not saying that just to throw shade. It is my believe that FAR too much sales training does a crappy job of orienting itself around teaching you how to sell your thing. They’re teaching you instead how to parrot THEIR OWN word tracks, which are filtered by what THEY themselves sold…likely in an industry they don’t even work in anymore. So instead of, “Here’s how to become a nerd about your product, your buyer and your market,”you get:“When they say X, you say Y.”Honest question here...Explain how that’s real sales? To make matters more loony, it “works” JUST enough to keep the High-Ticket Casino spinning, because very few stay on one offer long enough to actually get dangerous. So the system has to keep inventing portable parlor tricks that travel with the rep from offer to offer, and because every trainer is preaching this as “universal,” reps start to believe they can take that same sales training and sell anything to anyone.Which is exactly how you end up with low-quality, barely-qualifying-as-conversations:reps leaning hard on “sales speak” and surface-level psychology instead of deep industry and product knowledge. When you don’t sound like an actual insider and you use the same word tracks everyone else is using(because the same “universal” scripts are being sold into every offer),you create nothing but friction.Don't we all believe in the notion that "a product for everyone is a product for no one"?Buyers can feel that you’re not really answering their question—you just sound… weird.Word tracks don’t exist ANYWHERE else in the average person’s life. You’re already a stranger; don’t make it harder on yourself by talking to them in a way NO ONE else in their world talks to them.If you ask me, sales training ought to spend more time encouraging reps to get rooted in ONE ecosystemand actually understand it enough to not need all of the [mental] scripts in the first place. The real issue is NOT that reps don’t know enough “objection handling.”The real issue is they don’t know their product, their buyer, or their market deeply enough to just answer the question straight. If you need a [mental] script every time a buyer asks a question or gives you a piece of information…and what you ask or say in response is not DIRECTLY related to what they just said (the definition of a real conversation),you do not have a sales problem. You have an ignorance problem that sales training is trying to wallpaper over.Reps: This is why you feel like you’re bad at sales when you’re actually just undereducated on your offer.Founders: If your team needs a script for every real question, you don’t need “better closers,”you need to build a better EDUCATION system around your product and buyers.P.S. Yes, there are great sales pros who stay on one offer long enough to go deep… funny enough, they’re usually the ones who don’t need any of this “when they say X, you say Y” transactional automaton nonsense in the first place.Educate yourself so you can educate your buyers.Knowledge isn’t JUST power—armed with the RIGHT knowledge, you get a powerful, confident, motivated buyer and a nearly frictionless sales process.
