If Your Offer Can't Survive Basic Math, It Shouldn't Be Recruiting

Intel Brief

A recruiting deal died in real time because the founder couldn't calmly define his own metrics. Here's what I changed because of it.

Operator Note

A recruiting deal died in real time this morning.

The offer itself didn't appear to be bad.

It died because I had to ask some follow up questions on the information they provided me. The math wasn't mathing.

I started [nicely] poking holes in what they gave me and the founder got irritated. Took his toys [ops team]. Left the Slack channel. Done.

And honestly? Praise God for it.

BuuuuuuuBYYEEE.

Because if a company can't calmly define their own metrics… they have no business putting sales reps in front of a pipeline.

Here's the thing though, reps are catching this now too.

I'm getting FAR more hyper-specific questions from closers about how the numbers actually work together… or don't.

They're not just asking "what's the commission %?" anymore.

They're really digging in to the company snapshot to see if there are any discrepancies.

Translation: they're trying not to get sold a fantasy.

And I'm grateful for it.

Because it's forcing ME to do a better job vetting these offers before they ever hit a rep's inbox.

So I added a bunch more questions to my intake form (which is legally binding) to get more data points.

And then I built a little A.I. automation that, when a client submits my intake form, it runs through all the details submitted, cross-references all the variables and searches for [hidden] contradictions and holes. Then it stamps the offer with a PASS/FAIL and what to fix.

I've also started requiring proof of earnings. No exceptions.

So reps can see it was checked. The numbers are coherent. Someone actually looked.

It's not a gotcha or "guilty until proven innocent". It's a trust filter.

Because sales reps aren't inventory. They're adults making real career moves with real consequences. And if an offer can't survive basic math… it shouldn't be recruiting.

Vibes and screenshots are for the birds.

Shoutout to every rep holding me accountable and checking over my shoulder.
