I Matchmake Almost Entirely Off Intuition
Intel Brief
Within a few seconds of meeting a candidate, I usually already know which companies I'm submitting them to — and there's actual science behind why that works.

Sometimes when companies ask how I pair candidates to offers, I tell them I matchmake almost entirely off intuition.
What I mean by that is: within a few seconds of being introduced to a candidate, I usually already know which companies (if any) I’m going to submit them to.
Yes, I still go back and make sure all the boxes are checked after the fact…but the decision is basically made before the checklist ever loads.
That’s just how the human brain works.
You’re running a ridiculous amount of pattern-recognition in the background loooong before you can put words to it.
The technical term for this is called “thin-slicing.”
There’s research showing that when you’ve got a lot of at-bats in a specific domain, those rapid snap judgments can be JUST as accurate as the slow, more analytical decision-making, when used the right way.
When I explain this, I’ll usually joke that it sounds a little hippy-dippy…but if you actually study how “gut feeling” works, it’s pretty obvious God gave us brains that can process way faster than we can consciously think.
I just choose to lean into that instead of pretending I’m a spreadsheet.
What’s even cooler is now I’ve wired some of that into a simple internal AI matching tool that scores candidates against the offers I currently have open.
It’s not there to replace my decision-making — no way am I giving that up.
It’s there to watch my six by putting that pattern-recognition on paper and forcing me to codify what I already do in my head.
Case in point: this week it tagged a candidate as a 95% match for a role I’d already greenlit him for on gut alone.
The tool doesn’t make the call.
But because I’m not perfect and sometimes DO make the wrong call, it helps keep me on the rails if my brain ever starts trying to justify a fit that isn’t really there.
