A Replacement Guarantee Is Not a Blank Check

Intel Brief

If the earnings claims don't hold up anymore, you don't get to keep recycling real humans through the same seat and call it 'normal churn.'

I had a company recently tell me to keep advertising that their sales team was earning “XYZ commissions per month” because…

“That’s what the team is currently earning.”

The problem with that is I knew for a fact it wasn’t true.

(Not going to say how — but I did.)

So instead of calling them liars (which is how you instantly turn something into a messy cartoon straight out of loony-toon land)…

I asked for them to send me [updated] anonymized payout data from the last 90 days so I can represent this accurately to the market.

Avg / median / range + how many closers were active.

Basic stuff.

And for context — I wasn’t even asking out of curiosity.

I owed them a replacement credit for a hire that churned inside 30 days.

This was actually the 3rd person to churn in the window.

(Only time that’s ever happened in the last ~3 years)

But per our recruiting agreement:

A replacement guarantee is not a blank check.

It REQUIRES the role to still be marketable under truthful, current conditions.

Because if the earnings claims don’t hold up anymore… you don’t get to keep recycling real humans with real bills to pay through the same seat and call it “normal churn.”

When I asked for the data — multiple times — it never came.

Instead, I got MORE pressure to “just advertise what was said before.”

So I paused the replacement search and told them:

Either provide the verifiable numbers, or nothing moves on my end.

And they chose to part ways rather than provide the payouts.

Whew.

What a breath of fresh air.

Was so ready to be done with them.

But because being in the middle of two parties means I have to be extremely careful not to triangulate or play “he said / she said.”

If someone doesn’t know I know what they are trying to hide from me, I have to leave it that way.

I have to stick to the agreement, do things by the book and patiently let the truth reveal itself in time, as it always does.

At the end of the day…

Truth is what scales.

Accuracy is not optional.

Casino chips are replaceable.

Reputation isn’t.
