When a Recruiter Needs a Recruiter: Why Trust Replaced Reach in Hiring

Funny thing when a "recruiter" needs a recruiter.
Had a founder hit me up this week who's been in the space just as long as I have. He used to fill his roles with single FB posts. Nowadays? Nada.
He said, "I don't know what changed, but it's not like it used to be."
He's right. The algorithm stopped rewarding reach and more towards who fosters the relationships. Facebook wants more friends, not funnels.
And when everyone and their mother is "hiring closers," how many people stop the scroll for yet another company they've never heard of?
There is more to the story, though.
Reach isn't the only thing that's collapsed. Reach didn't just collapse — TRUST did. Nobody knows your offer. Nobody knows your name. To candidates, you're just another ad at the roulette table.
That's why hiring a recruiter isn't JUST about bandwidth anymore — it's about [ethically] borrowing their trust. And that founder isn't the first one who's been around a while to ask for my help recently.
Because when a recruiter is trusted by the rep side, that trust transfers to you. That's how good offers get good talent — before their competition ever sees them.
Over half my pipeline comes from referrals — sales pros telling their friends, "Hey, talk to ZB, he'll shoot you straight."
That's the game now.
In 2020, hiring was about reach. In 2025, it's about reputation. Protect it with your life. In an incredibly diluted market, it's the new currency.
