Zero Calls, Two Weeks In. And You're Mad at the REP?

This kind of crap really chaps my rear.
Business owners love to complain about "underperforming reps"...
...while simultaneously, and often to an AGREGIOUS extent, refuse to acknolwedge the complete LACK of basic setup they AREN'T providing in order for the rep to actually do his job.
Wild.
Here's a real example I just dealt with:
Founder brings on a closer.
Two weeks in, the closer's not showing up to team calls.
Founder's pissed.
So I ask: "How many calls has he taken?"
Zero.
"Wait, what?"
Yeah. Zero calls. Two weeks in.
The offer isn't delivering anything to him.
But here's where it get's even MORE spicy.
They want him to start doing dials on some crusty old list that was never part of the agreement to begin with.
AND they want him on unpaid team meetings.
So let me get this straight...
You want a commission-only closer to show up to meetings he's NOT getting paid for...
...to talk about an offer that's not sending him any calls...
...while you pressure him to cold dial a list that wasn't in the deal?
And you're confused why he's not showing up?
Bro.
He's not uncommitted.
He's not lazy.
He's PROTECTING his time from a company that clearly doesn't respect it.
Here's the thing everyone seems to forget:
Most great team players don't mind going the extra mile.
They'll show up early. Stay late. Jump on extra calls. Help train new people.
They'll do ALL of that...
...WHEN you're actually holding up your end.
But when all you do is take, take, take...
...and give nothing in return?
Nahhhhhhh.
You don't get to act shocked when people stop showing up.
It's not complicated.
Pay people for their time OR... don't ask for their time.
Give them a way to keep the landlord off their back (like you said you would when told them to "expect 5-7 calls per day") or don't expect them to give a rats behind about your "culture".
Honor the agreement or don't be surprised when your little org turns into a revolving door churning harder than Amish butter in the winter.
Do better.
