I Have No Idea What I'm Doing: Why the Basics of Selling Still Work
Intel Brief
The most effective way to sell is to stick to the basics: know your stuff, tell the truth, and let buyers buy the way they want.
“Zach, you don’t know anything about selling…”
Oof.
It's true. You got me.
I have no idea what I’m doing.
I don't know how to toggle my tonality.
I don’t know how to do a deep discovery.
I don't know how to mirror the buyer.
I don't know how to create tie-downs.
I don’t know how to financially qualify.
I don’t know how to handle objections.
I don't know how to loop the prospect.
I don’t know how to ask for the sale.
I don’t know how to control the frame.
I don’t know how to future-pace the dream.
True story \^
On paper, I'm bottom of the barrel.
I'm not good at any of those things I mentioned.
When I first got into online sales,
I did START to learn how to do those things.
Thankfully though, it didn’t take long to realize I hadn’t needed to sell like that before —
and I didn’t need to start now.
I sold D2D my own lawn care and also collision repair for nearly a decade (\~9 years on comission).
Different product, but still people.
So that’s how I kept selling.
Here I am, nearly six years later.
Still getting paid.
The most natural way to sell (that we all posess) almost got trained out of me.
I just came back to the basics —
know your stuff, tell the truth, and let buyers buy the way they want.
It’s crazy how far that trifecta still goes.
And the hilarious part?
Even though I have no idea what I’m doing,
the haters still buy me, too.
They pay me with their time —
