The "Future Self" Sales Script Is Manipulative Nonsense
Intel Brief
Pressuring buyers to make decisions as their imaginary future self is a manipulative sales tactic that ignores the value of thoughtful decision-making.

“I don’t make decisions like this. I need to think about it.”
That’s what the buyer said after being asked to buy a program.
Normal.
Rational.
But then, in all their glory, comes the sales guy, armed to the teeth with goorooisms galore, suddenly acting like the prospect’s “coach” in order to justify how they’re about to gaslight the poor guy:
(not his fault, by the way, he’s just copying what he was \[over\]trained to do).
- “Well, is that how you’ve typically made decisions in the past?”
- “If you want different results, don’t you need to do things differently?”
- “What would your future self do right now?”
And then BANG,
suddenly, right on que,
the buyer is being pressured into B-movie cosplay...
as some imaginary, fabricated “future version” of themselves
who magically—of course—buys today.
Here's why this tactic sucks:
You don’t make decisions AS your future self.
That’s impossible—your future self only exists as the sum of today’s choices,
not as some imaginary character you role-play as on a sales call.
You make them FOR your future self.
BIG difference.
That one shift, from AS to FOR,
changes the ENTIRE frame of the conversation.
Gooroos want you to THINK acting as your future self means rushing into choices you’d never normally make—
pretending wisdom looks like a premature, knee-jerk purchase on the spot.
But making decisions for your future self means protecting your business, your family,
and your sanity by weighing options with some time, space, and clarity combined—
a potent combo when making decisions that aren’t life or death.
Not to mention, who’s to say your future self wouldn’t actually be MORE hesitant about buying on the spot?
Funny how that possibility never makes the script.
This is not good salesmenship.
This is what we call a "false dilemma".
It's a manipulative setup that PRETENDS you only have two choices:
(1) buy right now, or
(2) sabotage your future self.
Everything else gets erased.
Waiting, or doing whatever you need to do before buying, is not sabotaging your future self.
It’s stewarding your future.
So let’s call a spade a spade:
This is yet just ANOTHER manipulation script in a cheap disguise.
Remember:
Your future self will thank you for a clear, thoughtful decision…
not for being bullied into one.
Because successful people don’t make fast decisions.
They make clear ones
Final question for the gooroos:
If your future self could see you parroting objection-handling scripts instead of telling the truth…
what do you think he’d say?
Truth beats tactics.
Every time.
