The Myth of Objection Handling: Why Performative Selling Creates Resistance

Intel Brief

Objections aren't inevitable obstacles to navigate, but rather alarm systems triggered when sales reps rely on unnatural performances instead of genuine, congruent communication.

Operator Note

I saw a post today about handling objections…

And I actually agreed with parts of it.

Stuff like:

“Stop trying to sound smart.”

“Curiosity beats cleverness.”

“Ask real questions instead of defending the price.”

Absolutely.

No debate.

That’s gospel truth here at the High-Ticket Casino.

The second you try to “out-logic” someone,

the roulette wheel already stopped on LOSE.

But here’s where the post went off the rails:

It said your job as a closer is to “navigate objections”…

and that objections are “doors” you just need to open.

Cute.

But no.

Objections aren’t doors.

They’re alarm systems that go off when the buyer doesn’t trust what you just did.

Because of how drunk this industry is on objection hanlding training, here’s the part nobody likes to hear:

There is a world where objections do not exist.

(and P.S. for the people who are about to lose their shirts:)

None of this works if you’re talking to the wrong person,

at the wrong time, with the wrong expectations,

who are armed with the wrong (or incomplete) information.

Objection-free selling requires CONGRUENCE from the top down,

marketing \> pre-frame \> positioning \> sales rep \> product.

If those pieces aren’t in alignment?

Yeah you’ll be swimming in objections no matter how honest you are.

But I know this world exists, because I've been living in it for almost 3 years.

The only reason reps keep running into objectionsis because they were trained to sell in a way that CREATES them.

When gooroos teach reps to approach a sales call like a performance,

a piece of b-roll theater that must be executed perfectly in order to “sound natural”,

reps step into the call the NPC version of themselves, instead of player 1.

And here’s why that falls apart:

Marketing is one-way and pre-recorded.

Buyers expect it to sound polished.

They’re indoctrinating themselves on their own time, at their own pace, with no back-and-forth.

Scripted is normal there.

Scripted works there.

But a sales conversation is real-time.

It’s relational.

It’s two humans responding to each other moment-by-moment.

What sounds “smooth” in a funnel video sounds robotic when it comes out of an actual human’s mouth on a live call.

And guess what?

Humans can smell that from a mile away.

Intuition fires.

The BS meter spikes.

Defensiveness activates.

Not because the buyer is “uncertain,”

but because the rep stopped being a person and started being a performer.

Word tracks aren’t natural.

Tonality toggling isn't natural.

Pretending you’re someone else isn’t natural.

It invites resistance.

Drop all of that.

Just:

Know your stuff.

Tell the truth.

Let buyers buy the way they buy.

When you stop performing, stop posturing, and stop trying to win the call…

You enter a world where objections don’t need to be handled, or even "prevented",

because they never show up in the first place.
