Stop Letting Recruiters Take Credit For Your Team's Success

Intel Brief

Recruiters who take credit for your reps' success are stealing your thunder while ignoring the reality that your systems, not their placements, are what truly drive performance.

Biz owners,

If your recruiter agency is out here posting,

“Look at OUR closer crushing it over at YOUR COMPANY…”

It might look like a simple flex, but its not.

It's theft.

Listen.

Unless that recruiter is actively consulting for you, building your systems, managing your reps,

and sitting in the ops meetings when stuff breaks…

You need to ask yourself this:

Why do they get to take a victory lap on your team?

A recruiter’s job (if we’re being honest) is simple:

Put qualified humans in front of you that you want to hire. That’s it.Once you say “yes,” the success or failure of that new relationshiup is between you and the rep. Period.

You’re the one who decided they were a fit for your company.

You’re the one who set the comp, the expectations, the scoreboards, the lead flow, the culture, the training,

and the operational guardrails they’re running in.

So if they crush it?

YOU should get the win.

Not the recruiter flexing on LinkedIn like they secretly ran your sales floor.

Now, to be fair, I don’t want to swing the pendulum so far that recruiters “don’t matter.”A savvy recruiter can & does increase the odds of success by:

Filtering out obviously bad fits

Setting cleaner expectations with both sides

Protecting your calendar by shortlisting the top choices (and not sending you chaos in a bacon-neck t-shirt)

That matters.

But it still doesn’t make them the hero of your P&L.

Here’s where they gets sneaky:

The same agencies bragging,

“Look at all these rockstars we placed that are KILLING it…”

…are also the ones saying,“Don’t worry, you don’t pay us unless they perform.”

Did you catch what they just did?

If the rep fails, it's “Not your fault, must’ve been a bad rep (and hey, just use our services again).”

If the rep wins, “That was our system. Look how cool we are.”

So they REMOVE your responsibility when it’s inconvenient

and STEAL your thunder when it’s profitable.

Meanwhile, here’s the shirt-losing, knicker-twisting truth nobody wants to hear:

Most of the time, reps don’t fail because they “weren’t savage enough” or “weren’t elite closers.”They fail because they got plugged into a half-baked, Looney Tunes operation with bad lead flow, hazy expectations,

zero real management, and not nearly enough business wherewithal.

Systems \> “savages.” Every time.

A good operation can take a solid rep and turn them into a weapon.

A bad operation can take a great rep and make them look like it's their first day on the internet in 60 days flat.

When agencies sell you on,

“No risk, you only pay if they perform”…and then use your success as their proof? They’re doing two things at once:

Training you to believe you’re not responsible for the outcome of your hires.

Selling other companies on a fantasy that their success is guaranteed if they just “use this recruiting agency” —

as if your systems didn’t matter at all.

You don’t need someone to stroke your ego and tell you,

“It’s never your fault, king, you just need better killers.”

You need someone who will tell you the truth:

The people you hire? Your responsibility. The systems they plug into? Your responsibility.

The outcomes they create over time? Still your responsibility.

Work with recruiters who respect that line:

Their job is to find talent and improve your odds.

Your job is to build the machine that talent can win inside of.

And if your recruiter keeps using your wins as their marketing…

You might not be their client.

You might just be their billboard.
